elcome to the Santa Cruz Baroque Festival. The purpose of the Festival is the exploration and presentation of authentic and engaging performances of music of the Baroque and other eras. Founded in 1974 by our Artistic Director Linda Burman-Hall, the Festival strives to educate through entertainment. Together, Linda and the Festival’s Board of Directors have, for 27 years, presented the finest talent, many of which are local early music specialists as well as regional and international figures.

Thank you for joining us with your presence and assistance, making our 29th season possible. With so many international events shaping our lives, our season considers the shaping of historic concert music by its rustic counterparts. As we contemplate world events unfolding around us, we can take strength, consolation and enjoyment in this season's program. World events being what they are, we can all use the healing and transporting ability of music.

For these tenuous times of international awareness, the festival considers the Baroque experience from its sources to where it ultimately led composers, and its effect on music internationally. Our EUROPEAN ROOTS * INTERNATIONAL FLOWERINGS theme delves into Celtic, Renaissance, Gypsy, Italian, and Spanish folk roots, seeking connections, and interactions with "serious" concert hall music. Perhaps this diverse season, following the common as it makes its way to the extraordinary, from many sources to many culminations, may challenge us to see in new ways how related each individual is to the rest of the world.

In addition to providing these concerts for your edification, the Festival is also presenting our fourth annual 'Music In The Gardens' Tour. We hope you will all join in visiting these incredible garden environments, each accompanied by special music to enhance your enjoyment. In addition to concerts and our annual fund-raiser, the Baroque Festival also presents outreach to area schools, introducing Baroque music to students, as well as radio re-broadcasts of the concerts and our increasingly informative web page. Hopefully you will find this season inspirational and elevating, as international musicians of highest standards convene to provide us with an incredible variety of music, all made possible by your support and involvement.
