| 25th Anniversary Celebration 1998 Concert Series: A Musical Bestiary! I. Musical Love-Birds: Nightingales and Doves. Susan Judy, soprano with Lux Musica and guest artists. Saturday February 14, UCSC Recital Hall, Santa Cruz. A Valentine's Day offering of Renaissance and Baroque works celebrating birds as emblems of attraction, affection, and (especially!) romance.
Saturday March 21, UCSC Recital Hall, Santa Cruz. Five centuries of music celebrating the feline eternal. Fine art music by Scarlatti, Forqueray, Satie, Bach and Britten contrast with high-spirited catches, rounds and arias. III. The Sea of Harmony Saturday April 18, First Congregational Church, Santa Cruz. Water music! A portrait of the many moods of the ocean and its creatures, from French Baroque sea myths to Satie's timeless 'underwater' piano works. IV. The Circus Concert: Parades, Acrobats & Beasts Saturday May 2, Loudon Nelson, Santa Cruz Comical and whimsical Renaissance and Baroque music for violin, viol and harpsichord, including parades and snapshots of animals and entertainers, pieces for three-hands keyboard and four hands viol, and comic slight-of-hand for instrumentalists and jugglers. V. Canaries, Cuckoos and Chickens Presenting the poignant Canary Cantata, keyboard works and a concerto based on the call of the trickster cuckoo, (who lays her own eggs in the nest of another) and a wealth of short works from four centuries celebrating everyones favorite barnyard fowl. |
